Post Check if you are eligible for reduced Paypal fees.
Depending on the volume of sales, sellers are eligible for discounts on the Paypal Merchant rates.

The standard rates are -

Monthly Sales - Transaction Fee
£0.00 GBP-£1,500.00 3.4% + £0.20
£1,500.01 GBP-£6,000.00 2.9% + £0.20
£6,000.01 GBP-£15,000.00 2.4% + £0.20
£15,000.01 GBP-£55,000.00 1.9% + £0.20
above £55,000.00 1.4% + £0.20

You have to initially apply for reduced rates, but if you then drop below the threshold, the rates will increase. Application is a one-time occurance, if you subsequently increase sales, the rate will automatically drop again.

Login to Paypal > Select Merchant Services from top menu > Select Transaction Fees from the left hand box titled Resources > Under the table of rates is a section marked "How is Eligibility for Merchant Rates determined?"; click the link to check the "Merchant Rate Criteria" > At the bottom of the page is a link to Apply Now.

You enter your details in the form and click submit. You will either be told you are accepted :) or declined

Just to give you's an example....

I get a lot of payments for £4.99, i've always paid 37p PP fees per sale, since i upgraded it's costing me 34p.

Not a big difference but every little helps :D

I think that's the case. They are tough for smalltimes but respect the powersellers.

I have to say that paypal is siding with the big sellers and allienating the small time sellers. Cummon guys it's not like we are going to be small sellers forever, cut us some slack. Image

I think it is more a sign of the times than a conspiracy or such - Paypal is simply part of a large corporate entity that is accountable to shareholders and the stock market. They have to make big numbers, and make bigger numbers each year.

From an economic perspective for example, it is easier and more cost effective to deal with 100,000 transactions each from a thousand customers, than it is to deal with 10 transactions each from 10 million customers.

It's the conversion of a business ethos from community focused to corporate focussed.
