Post Paypal is abysmal, but whats the alternative?
I've just been hit with my second chargeback by Paypal, due to 'Unauthorised use of a credit card'. This has really really really pi55ed me off as I have no control over the processing of the card, only the receipt of the funds.

I can understand that if the chargeback was due to not received, or not as described, but this is something beyond my control and something that Paypal should take responsibility for. Any other large merchant service provider does. And the filthy feckers also charged me £7.00 for their incompetancy!! I am now constructing a case to got to the FSA for what it's worth.

In the short term though, I have downgraded to a personal account to stop credit card transactions - I have only ever received 3 and 2 have gone to chargeback for unauthorised use. My main concern is the receiving limit, the T&C's are not particularly clear (now thats a surprise!!) about how this limit works, but I also want to consider alternative e-payments systems that Ebay accept. I am not a huge seler, but occasionally list high value items.

What are your opinions and experiences on Bidpay, Nochex or Certapay? Do eBay have any share in these companies, or are they likely to be pulled as preferred payment methods.

I only use Nochex and eBay dont permit use of Nochex but I couldn't give a damn about eBay policies. They will never be able to get rid of me.

Nochex is excellent. Buyers needn't even sign up if they are paying £100 or less.

I've never experienced a chargeback once. There isn't a dispute process either I don't think, so it highly favours the seller.

I dont use the nochex name in the listing but I will list credit card as a payment method then write something like:

'I do not currently accept paypal payments. I will only post to the UK. If you have a debit or credit card then I can process your payment instantly with a similar service to paypal. No sign up required. Alternatively, payment can be by postal order or bank deposit/ transfer.'

Then after the listing, inform them on how to pay by nochex. That way, eBay can't tell me narda.

The "details" page tells you at the bottom, next to Payment Type

I have also spotted that personal accounts do not have any fees for receiving payments, but the receiving limit is £250 per month.

Classic! :.:

I was banned from paypal for some studif reason a few months back and i switched to nochex, doing axactly as conz does...

It worked but there were a lot fewer card payments simply because most people are brainwashed by ebay that paypal is the only safe method of payment, which we all know is b*****it!

just a thought on the paypal alternative - has anyone considered offering direct bank transfers?

I've noticed a few sellers offering this, and they list their account number and sort code on payment details. If a buyer has internet banking, it's very quick, and free, to make payments.

How secure is this as a payment - after all the buyer will have your name, address and bank details and possibly phone number?

And do eBay allow it?

I would love for google to give ebay a run for their money, ebay and paypal think they can do what they want, and while they have no serious competition, basically they can!

not sure about bank transfers though, lot of dodgy people out there, that you dont want having those kind of details!

Western Union!? Stay well away from it mate, It has a very bad reputation, much worse than PayPal's and is very popular with scammers. Not safe in my eyes.

Pretty much the same as paypal but ebay have banned sellers using them

The charges are very similar, the only differences i found is that the customer support isn't as good cause there's no telephone number but transfering funds from your account to your bank account only take 3 working days as oppose to 7 with paypal.

A wise man once said:

Quote:
Western Union is for sending your junkie brother money either because he needs a hit or the bailiffs are going to kick him out onto the street

I can't remember who wrote that quote but i read it on a forum once, Western Union is very unsafe and is only suitable for sending money to people who you know like family members and friends. Once you've sent money via Western Union it cannot be traced or reimbursed in the case of being scammed.

Have you had an email from nigerians stating that they are the son of the ex president of nigeria (or some bullsh*t excuse) and they want to transfer something like $20 million USD into your bank account so it doesn't get taken from them because of complications in their country? Well if you go along with these stories before long they'll be asking you to transfer about £4,000 via western union to cover solicitor fee's etc' but as soon as this money has been transferred chances are you'll never hear from the son of the president again :x

I heard of a 60+ year old woman who fell for this type of scam and lost all of her life savings (about £45,000) to the scammers and was really wounded, anyway she decided to pack up and fly to nigeria to get her money back. The old woman was never seen again.

See this website for more details:

Here is an example of how low these scammers are prepared to go (received in my email account today)

Quote:
Dear Friend,

I am Mrs. Sarah Welsh, an English woman who is suffering from cancerous
ailment. I am married to Sir Jim Welsh who also is an English man
though dead now. My husband worked with the Nigeria Railways for over two
decade before the cold hand of death took him away on the 23rd of July
2003 at about 2:00 AM. Our marriage lasted for over a decade without any
fruit of the Womb. My husband died after a protracted illness. My
husband and I made a vow to uplift the down-trodden and the Less-privileged
individuals within the United Kingdom, Europe, North and South America,
Africa and the rest of the globe as he had passion for persons who
cannot help themselves due to physical disability or financial predicament.
I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a child from this
relationship, which never came.

When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US$10,000,000.00
(Ten Million US Dollars) with a bank in Nigeria. Presently, this money
is still with the bank. Recently, my doctor told me that I have a
limited or numbered days on earth and that my life Span will not exceed 150
days due to the cancerous problems I am suffering from. Though what
bothers me most is the stroke that I have in addition to the cancer. With
this hard reality that has befallen my family, and me I have decided to
donate this fund to a on-governmental, or a non-religious, and or a
non-profit organization or better still an Individual that will utilize
this money the way I am going to instruct here in.

This gift, which comes from my husbands sweat to fund the upkeep of
widows, widowers, orphans, destitute, the downtrodden, physically
challenged children, barren-women and persons who prove to be genuinely
handicapped financially. It is often said that blessed is the hand that
giveth. I took this decision because I do not have any child that will
inherit this money and my husband relatives are bourgeois and very wealthy
persons and I do not want my husband Jim Welsh hard earned money to be
misused or invested into ill perceived ventures. I do not want a
situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner, hence the reason
for taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know
where I am going.

I know that I am going to be with the Almighty when I eventually pass
on. The Almighty will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I do not
need any telephone communication in this regard due to my deteriorating
health and because of the presence of my husband relatives around me. I
do not want them to know about this development. With God all things
are possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the
contact of the bank in Nigeria. I will also issue you a Letter of Authority
that will empower you as the original beneficiary of this fund. My
happiness is that I lived a life worthy of emulation.

Please always be prayerful all through your life. Any delay in your
reply will give me room in sourcing for a non-governmental, or a
non-religious, and or a non-profit organization or better still an individual
for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act just as I
have stated herein.

Hope to hear from you soon and God bless you and members of your
family.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Mrs. Sarah Welsh. (Benefactor)

I'd imagine that it is safe to receive money but because of the severe lack of trust with western union it could sacrafice a lot of buyers by using this online payment method, maybe not for website based payments etc' but definitely for eBay users. I'd go with NoChex.com or PPPay.com

Yeah Nochex are my first choice after paypal...

I have just remembered a downfall though

You can only accept payment from uk debit or credit cards, but a good thing i remember is that nochex don't do chargebacks, once you have the money it's guaranteed to stay!

Even if someone pays you with a stolen card you still keep the funds :)
